Description

This easy boiled carrots recipe offers a simple and quick way to prepare tender, flavorful carrots with minimal ingredients. Perfect as a healthy side dish, the carrots can be boiled until just tender, then seasoned with butter, honey, or fresh herbs for extra taste.

Ingredients

Scale

Carrots

  • 1 pound carrots (about 3 medium carrots)

Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon salt (plus more for serving)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (or oil, optional)
  • 1 tablespoon honey (or pure maple syrup, optional)
  • Fresh parsley or dill (optional)

Instructions

  1. Clean carrots: Rinse the carrots thoroughly under cool running water to remove any dirt or debris. Use a paper towel or dish towel to scrub if needed. Peel the outer skin using a vegetable peeler for a smooth texture.
  2. Slice carrots: For sliced carrots, cut them on a bias to about ¼-inch thick slices. You can also choose to leave them whole but remove the tops if desired.
  3. Add salt to water: Fill a large pot with enough water to completely submerge the carrots. Add 1 teaspoon of salt and bring the water to a full boil over high heat.
  4. Boil carrots: Carefully add the carrots to the boiling water. Boil sliced carrots for 4-6 minutes, baby carrots for 7-8 minutes, or whole carrots for 10-15 minutes until they are tender and can easily be pierced with a fork.
  5. Season and serve: Remove the carrots using a slotted spoon or drain them in a colander. While still warm, toss them with butter or oil, and honey or maple syrup if using. Add additional salt to taste and garnish with fresh parsley or dill if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For more flavor, try adding garlic or herbs to the boiling water.
  • Boiling times vary depending on carrot size; test tenderness with a fork frequently.
  • Use fresh herbs like parsley or dill to complement the sweetness of the carrots.
  • Butter can be substituted with olive oil for a vegan option.
  • Honey or maple syrup adds a natural sweetness that pairs well with the earthiness of carrots.
