Description

This Garlic Butter Shrimp recipe is a quick and flavorful dish perfect for a weeknight dinner or a special occasion. Tender shrimp are sautéed in rich butter and fragranced with garlic, then brightened up with fresh lemon juice and zest. A hint of red pepper flakes adds a subtle kick, while parsley provides a fresh finish. Ready in just 10 minutes, this dish pairs wonderfully with pasta, rice, or crusty bread.

Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp

  • 1 lb. shrimp (16-20 count, peeled and deveined)

Garlic Butter Sauce

  • 5 Tbsp. butter (divided)
  • 4 cloves garlic (finely minced)
  • 2 tsp. lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 tsp. lemon zest
  • ½ tsp. salt (to taste)
  • ¼ tsp. black pepper (to taste)
  • ¼-½ tsp. red pepper flakes (optional)

Garnish

  • Parsley (finely chopped, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep the Shrimp: Peel and devein the shrimp if needed. Decide whether to keep or remove the tails according to preference. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture, ensuring they sear properly.
  2. Cook the Shrimp: Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a large non-stick or stainless steel skillet over medium heat until melted. Arrange the shrimp in a single layer in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes. Flip the shrimp and cook for another 2 minutes or until they turn opaque and their tails curl. Cooking time may vary based on shrimp size.
  3. Add the Butter and Garlic: Create a small well in the center of the shrimp in the skillet and add the remaining butter. Once melted, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds, just until it becomes fragrant and lightly browned, being careful not to burn it.
  4. Season and Serve: Remove the skillet from heat. Stir in fresh lemon juice, lemon zest, salt, black pepper, and optional red pepper flakes. Mix everything gently to coat the shrimp evenly. Serve immediately, garnished with finely chopped fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh shrimp instead of frozen, but if using frozen, thaw completely and pat dry before cooking.
  • Adjust red pepper flakes to control the level of spiciness or omit for a milder flavor.
  • Serve with crusty bread to soak up the delicious garlic butter sauce.
  • This dish pairs well with rice, pasta, or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
  • Do not overcook shrimp to avoid rubbery texture; they cook quickly and are done when opaque.
